#63 - Mobs + 36 Days
We are a community of singles and non-singles sharing our relationship journeys. Welcome to our weekly newsletter that includes a few stories, a rotating topic, and anything new we are trying out. It’s early days - thanks for being curious about us and following along.
Welcome back! It’s Tuesday and we are here for it.
36 Days
Let’s start with a fun fact check this week…
Scroll to the bottom to see the answer. Along the way you’ll find a story and a Wildcard about the new places to meet folks outside of dating apps.
About Group Coaching
We are more than half way through our first group coaching experience (The Link) and cannot wait to share the feedback here. We are launching more cohorts soon.
If you or anyone you know is dating on dating apps and looking for community and support (also heads-up pricing is likely going up next year)…
Our Stories
These are real stories collected from otters we meet along the way.

Our family never says please or thank you. That stands out to my wife, and at times it even bothers her. It’s assumed in my family. But her family is different. They say please and thank you; they make plans to spend quality time together. When you are in business with your family, meaning your livelihood and financial survival are linked, it’s a different experience. Family comes above everything else with an unspoken code of honor and loyalty. We support each other from kidney to bank account. She knows this code exists, but she’s never experienced it. Yet we are from the same culture. We are both coming up learning curves to find our footing balancing our lived experiences. She jokes it’s like marrying into the mob for her. It isn’t, but it is.
Wildcard
What caught our eye in the land of relationships and dating this week? A podcast, an article, a meme…or something else? It’s a wildcard with a dash of MTO’s point of view.
Unusual Suspects
What do Yelp, Duolingo and Strava all have in common? They connect people on topics of interest. They enable the ability to befriend, follow, and comment. That’s all one needs these days to start a conversation with a stranger online. Wall Street Journal recently covered stories on how interacting with folks on these apps evolved into romantic partnerships for some.
A Dash of Data
Dating apps can cost more than a Netflix subscription these days, and even that’s not helping them grow. While dating apps are desperate to see growth, customers are desperate to find other options. And it looks like the customers’ desperation is…winning?
(Friendly reminder, Match.com owns Tinder, Hinge, Match.com, eHarmony, Plenty of Fish, OkCupid, which means they control 61% of swipes in the world. Match.com plus Bumble equals 91% of swipes in the world.)
The Meta Point
Regarding trying other interest-based apps as an alternate to using dating apps, is it guaranteed to deliver matches? No. Is this a reason to use these apps over dating apps to meet someone? Unclear. The takeaway is to engage in places that fuel your interests and therefore you.
Fun Fact Follow-up
About that fun fact above, Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder and CEO of Bumble, will step down in 36 days.
Thanks for sharing some of your Tuesday here. As always feel free to reply with any questions, feedback, dating stories, and/or cheesy jokes.
See you next week!
